Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has successfully restored railway tracks that were severely damaged by heavy rains in the Intekanne-Kesamudram and Tadla Pusapalli-Mahbubabad sections.
The railway tracks were impacted at 15 different locations due to the heavy rains and the large amount of floodwater coming from upstream tanks. The damage was significant, with tracks being breached at eight locations in the Tadla Pusapalli–Mahbubabad section and seven locations in the Intekanne–Kesamudram section.
To restore the tracks, SCR used 30,000 cubic meters of soil, 5,000 cubic meters of ballast, and 6,000 cubic meters of special consolidation soil. The restoration work was carried out on an urgent basis, with teams working around the clock to ensure the tracks could be reopened as quickly as possible.
By September 3, the damage at all eight locations on both the up and down lines of the Tadla Pusapalli–Mahbubabad section was successfully repaired. To test the restored tracks, an empty train, no 12296 SMVT Bengaluru-Danapur Sanghamitra Express, was run from Kesamudram to Mahbubabad. The line has now been declared safe for train traffic.
The restoration work involved a large number of resources, including one monsoon special train carrying boulders and sandbags, 12 Hitachi machines, six JCBs, 10 tractors, 20 tippers, various specialized track maintenance machines, and around 350 skilled laborers.
Arun Kumar Jain, the general manager of SCR, praised the safety staff, especially the trackmen who were on night patrol. Their alertness and quick actions helped prevent any accidents during the night. Thanks to their vigilance, all trains were safely regulated at various stations along the route.
