Hyderabad has experienced several fire accidents recently. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) plans to start more frequent inspections and checks from mid-March.
At a gathering in the Old City on February 12, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath mentioned that shops and businesses not following fire safety regulations will face closure. He highlighted the increased fire risk as summer nears, noting that flames can spread rapidly.
In January, nine shops were shut down due to severe fire safety breaches. However, traders were given a month’s grace period to meet safety standards after their associations requested it.
With Ramzan coming soon, AIMIM Charminar MLA Zulfikar urged traders to stock goods safely and perform regular safety checks to prevent incidents.
A fire incident occurred on February 7 at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory in Nampally, Hyderabad. While there were no injuries, important documents were reportedly lost.
Earlier, on January 24, a fire in a four-story building with a furniture shop led to the tragic deaths of five people, including two children and an elderly woman, due to smoke inhalation.
