Hyderabad: Passengers using the Secunderabad Railway Station may soon experience some inconvenience due to ongoing redevelopment work. As part of the project, some platforms will be temporarily closed in stages.
According to officials, the closure will happen in phases. For the first 13 days, only platforms 5 and 6 will remain open. After that, platforms 4 and 5 will be open for 50 days. During the entire construction period, only two platforms will be used for construction work, while the remaining eight platforms will continue to be used for train services.
To manage the disruption, the South Central Railway (SCR) has already diverted around 70 trains from Secunderabad to other stations, including Cherlapalli, Kacheguda, and Nampally. Many trains that used to depart from Secunderabad will now start from Cherlapalli. The railway authorities have made arrangements to operate trains from multiple stations within the city to reduce inconvenience to passengers.
As part of the station’s redevelopment, a large two-story sky concourse is being constructed. This new structure will have various passenger facilities, such as restaurants, kiosks, lifts, escalators, and foot over bridges. All sky concourses will be connected for easier access.
A massive 500-tonne crane is also being installed between platforms 5 and 6 to assist with construction. To support this work, the space between the platforms will be filled with sandbags, and the crane will be used to carry out heavy lifting tasks.
