The South Central Railways (SCR) has announced a major financial boost for Telangana, with an allocation of Rs 5,337 crore set aside for the state. In addition to this, new train services under the Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat schemes will soon be launched for the region. This development is expected to enhance connectivity and support economic growth across Telangana.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that Telangana has achieved 100 percent railway electrification, with a total investment of Rs 41,677 crore. He explained that improved railway infrastructure would connect industrial hubs, ports, and cities across the state, boosting the regional economy. Additionally, better rail services are expected to ensure safer and more efficient travel for passengers while improving freight transport for industries and agriculture.

Speaking about ongoing projects, the Minister emphasized the progress of the Kavach system, a safety technology designed to prevent train collisions. He noted that most of the development for Kavach is being carried out in Secunderabad, where a center of excellence has been established. So far, 1,465 kilometers of the technology have been implemented across SCR, with trials for the latest version 4.0 currently underway. The remaining 1,326 kilometers are expected to be completed soon, with a nationwide target of deploying Kavach across the rail network within the next six years.

The Railways is also undertaking a large-scale replacement of old tracks, covering 7,000 kilometers. Plans are in place to upgrade tracks to support train speeds of up to 160 kmph on key sections, 130 kmph on other routes, and 100 kmph across the entire network. These upgrades aim to enhance the efficiency of the railway system.

SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain also provided updates on the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) in Telangana. He pointed out that the state has seen consistent increases in budget allocations for rail projects in recent years. The second phase of the MMTS has been commissioned, and work will soon begin on extending services from Ghatkesar to Yadadri, further improving local connectivity.
