Hyderabad: R. Arun Kumar, a former leader of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), criticized the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in a speech on Monday. He urged students to oppose the increasing control of corporations over education in India.
Speaking at the “Dialogue with Arun Kumar” event at the AIDWA State office, Kumar accused the BJP government of adopting policies that disadvantage poor students.
He claimed the NEP-2020 makes education less accessible for economically challenged individuals. Kumar argued it promotes student loans and encourages moving abroad, aligning education with corporate and global interests.
Kumar also suggested that the policy supports the ideological goals of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which he believes weakens democratic principles in schools.
He stressed the need for students to understand politics and fight against unfair systems. “Students should learn about politics, question inequalities, and challenge systemic wrongs,” he stated.
M. Mamata, an SFI Central Committee member, led the event. Other notable attendees included State Secretary T. Nagaraju, State Vice Presidents Kiran, B. Shankar, and Ashok, along with committee members Karthik, Lenin, J. Ramesh, and Avinash.
Speakers supported Kumar’s views, urging young people to demand education that is both accessible and fair. The gathering ended with participants pledging to enhance awareness and resistance efforts on college campuses.
