Hyderabad: Endowments Minister Konda Surekha clarified on Friday that her recent comments about bribery were aimed at the previous BRS government, not the current administration. She accused BRS supporters of twisting her words and spreading a misleading video online.
Surekha said her remarks in Warangal on Thursday were about how some ministers under the BRS rule used to ask for money to process official work. “It was common for ministers to demand payments just to move files. This was well known but rarely spoken about,” she stated.
She accused a group funded by the BRS of editing her comments to create confusion. “They cut and pasted parts of my speech to make it look like I was criticizing our current ministers. That’s completely false,” she said. “Our Congress government is working efficiently, and every minister is doing their job well.”
Surekha emphasized that government employees have noticed the difference in governance since the new administration took over. She warned that those spreading misinformation will be held responsible.
She also brought up past corruption scandals, referencing former minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, who once called the Mission Kakatiya project “Commission Kakatiya” due to alleged kickbacks. She reminded the public that even KCR, the BRS chief, had admitted that MLAs were taking a 30% commission from people benefiting from the Dalit Bandhu scheme.
“The people have already shown what they think of the BRS in the last election. But even after losing, they haven’t changed,” Surekha added.
