Hyderabad: The suspense over the new Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President has finally ended. On Friday, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed senior leader and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) B Mahesh Kumar Goud as the new Telangana Congress Chief. This decision is effective immediately.
Goud’s name had been circulating as the likely choice for TPCC Chief for about a week. This speculation followed a high-level meeting in New Delhi, where senior AICC leader Rahul Gandhi met with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. After discussions with top state leaders, the party’s high command officially announced Goud as the successor to Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy had held the TPCC Chief position for almost three years. During his tenure, he led the Congress party to victory in the state’s Assembly elections last year.
The Congress leadership considered caste dynamics when making their decision. Since Revanth Reddy is from South Telangana, the party chose Goud, a leader from North Telangana’s Nizamabad district, as the new chief. Goud, who belongs to the Backward Classes (BC) community, was seen as the right choice to balance the party’s representation across regions.
It has been decided that Goud will hold the TPCC Chief position until the next Assembly elections, scheduled for December 2028. Goud is considered a non-controversial figure and a close ally of Revanth Reddy. Both leaders will work together on important decisions, such as forming state party committees and appointing state and district leaders.
In future, the Chief Minister’s influence is expected to be evident in the decisions made by the new TPCC President, shaping the direction of the Congress party in Telangana.
