Hyderabad: A 19-year-old from Rajasthan has been arrested by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police for pretending to be senior IAS and IPS officers.
The suspect, Arbaj Khan from Bahadurpur Patti Meeran in Alwar, Rajasthan, created fake Facebook profiles claiming to be high-ranking government officials. He used these accounts to scam people out of money. Arbaj is linked to two cases in Telangana.
On May 12, police received a complaint from a senior bureaucrat about a fake Facebook profile made in his name. This fraudulent account sent friend requests and asked for money from the bureaucrat’s friends and family. Arbaj also used the official’s photos to make more fake profiles, claiming to be a CRPF officer. He sent inappropriate messages, damaging the reputations of government officials and misleading the public.
He set up fake accounts on Facebook and WhatsApp, posing as IAS and IPS officers. By doing this, he tricked colleagues and extorted money from them. Arbaj used fake display pictures to impersonate the officials and collect funds.
Inspector N Ramu led the team that solved the case.
The cyber crime police warn people to be careful and not to trust messages or friend requests on social media claiming to be from senior officials asking for money. Always check the authenticity of such messages through official channels. Never send money without verifying the identity of the person.
