Telangana Leads India in Recovering Lost and Stolen Mobile Phones
Telangana has become the top state in India for recovering lost and stolen mobile phones using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. As of May 19, the state successfully recovered 78,114 mobile devices, more than any other state in the country.
The CEIR portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), helps track and block stolen or missing phones. It was first introduced in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, and the North East on September 5, 2022. Telangana joined the program later, launching it on April 19, 2023, nearly eight months after the pilot started. Despite the late start, Telangana quickly rose to the top in mobile recoveries.
The highest number of recoveries came from three major police zones:
– Hyderabad Commissionerate: 11,879 devices
– Cyberabad Commissionerate: 10,385 devices
– Rachakonda Commissionerate: 8,681 devices
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Telangana leads the initiative across the state. The CEIR system is now active in all 780 police stations in the region.
Shikha Goel, Director General, praised the efforts of the CID team, especially B Gangaram, SP, Cyber Crime, for their coordination with DoT officials like Hemant Rathwe (DDG Security), Nitika (Director ITS), and Nambi Mridupani (JTO). Their teamwork has been key to this achievement.
The Telangana Police have also linked the CEIR system with the TG Police Citizen Portal, making it easier for people to report stolen or lost phones. Citizens can file reports at www.tspolice.gov.in or directly through www.ceir.gov.in.
Many users have shared positive feedback, saying the portal helped them recover their phones quickly. This success has made the CEIR portal an essential tool for mobile phone recovery in Telangana.
