Hyderabad: On Saturday, Harish Rao, a former minister, highlighted plans by the Andhra Pradesh government to redirect Godavari river water using the proposed Banakacherla project. Rao criticized the Congress-led Telangana government for ignoring this serious issue affecting the state’s water resources.
During a press conference, Rao explained that Andhra Pradesh is progressing with tenders for the Banakacherla project. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy of staying silent. According to Rao, the Congress government is more focused on political revenge rather than public welfare, filing false cases against KTR and BRS leaders.
Rao expressed concern over the inaction while Andhra Pradesh exceeds the agreed limits under the temporary Krishna agreement. He questioned why the Congress government remains quiet when over 200 TMC of Godavari water could be diverted, threatening Telangana’s share.
Rao pointed out that Telangana has eight BJP MPs, eight Congress MPs, and two Union Ministers, yet none are speaking up. He questioned if their loyalty to Delhi is more important than serving Telangana. Rao accused Revanth Reddy of compromising state interests to maintain his friendship with Chandrababu Naidu.
Rao also referred to Union Minister Bandi Sanjay's claim that the Centre granted Andhra ten times more funds than Telangana. In response to Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Rao stated that writing letters isn’t sufficient. He urged the Minister to push the Chief Minister to call for an Apex Council meeting on the Banakacherla project, as this is what the people of Telangana expect.
