As Ramzan begins, Hyderabad’s culinary map is witnessing a noticeable shift. While the Old City has traditionally been the epicentre of Ramzan food culture, this year Tolichowki is rapidly emerging as the new hotspot for midnight food cravings and festive shopping.
Over the first few days of the holy month, Tolichowki’s main roads have transformed into a vibrant food corridor. The stretch is now lined with dozens of kebab stalls, haleem counters, grills, and street food outlets, drawing massive crowds well past midnight. The aroma of freshly prepared Hyderabadi haleem, sizzling kebabs, and charcoal-grilled delicacies fills the air, creating a festive atmosphere that rivals the Old City.
IT Crowd Drives the Nightlife Surge
A striking trend this year is the strong turnout from the Gachibowli and Financial District side. On Saturday night, the area witnessed a huge influx of IT professionals and young working crowds, many of whom arrived after late work hours to soak in the Ramzan vibe.
Parking spaces were scarce, vehicles lined both sides of the road, and families as well as groups of friends thronged popular outlets. The combination of food, late-night energy, and festive decor has made Tolichowki the preferred destination for many who previously travelled to Charminar during Ramzan.
Food Beyond Religion
Interestingly, observers noted that a significant portion of the crowd consisted of non-Muslims, enjoying haleem and kebabs with equal enthusiasm. The atmosphere reflected Hyderabad’s inclusive food culture, where Ramzan delicacies transcend religion.
Many locals remarked that during Ramzan, food becomes a shared celebration. “There is no religion in food, especially during Ramzan,” said one visitor while waiting for his parcel of haleem.
Traffic Challenges Ahead
With Ramzan just beginning, authorities are already facing mounting traffic pressure in the area. Traffic police personnel were seen working continuously to manage vehicle movement, regulate roadside parking, and ensure pedestrian safety.
Given the growing popularity of Tolichowki as a Ramzan hub, officials anticipate heavier traffic congestion in the coming days, particularly on weekends. If the current trend continues, the stretch could witness significant late-night jams as more residents head there for shopping and post-iftar feasts.
For now, Tolichowki stands illuminated by food stalls, festive lights, and the unmistakable aroma of Ramzan specials — signalling a shift in Hyderabad’s seasonal culinary geography.
