Hyderabad is getting ready for Bakrid, and city officials are working to ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully and hygienically. In a recent meeting, City Police Commissioner CV Anand reminded everyone that only government officers and police have the right to check vehicles transporting animals. He urged the public and groups like Gau Rakshaks not to take the law into their own hands.
The meeting took place at the Old Police Commissioner’s Office in Basheerbagh. Key officials including Vikram Singh Mann (Additional CP, Law & Order), RV Karnan (GHMC Commissioner), and others from the Transport, Health, and Sanitation Departments attended. The main focus was on preventing illegal animal transportation and maintaining cleanliness during Bakrid.
Commissioner Anand ordered the setup of special check-posts around the city. These check-posts will stop vehicles carrying animals without veterinary certificates or those not cleared for slaughter. Any vehicle breaking the rules will be seized and the animals will be moved to GHMC-approved shelters or goshalas.
To manage this, the Animal Husbandry Department and GHMC will place veterinary doctors at all check-posts around the clock. GHMC will also send dog-catching teams across the city to handle stray dogs before the festival.
Every household will receive special covers to properly dispose of animal remains. On Bakrid day, special sanitation teams will be on duty to collect garbage and animal waste. GHMC will use extra vehicles, tippers, and JCBs to speed up the cleaning process. More staff will be assigned to ensure the city stays clean, especially near mosques and public areas.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said they are fully prepared with additional sanitation workers and garbage trucks. Garbage bags will be distributed in all key areas, and officials will be active throughout the festival.
Commissioner Anand made it clear that only authorized staff from the police, GHMC, and Animal Husbandry Department will be allowed at check-posts. He also called for the creation of coordination teams at local, zonal, and city levels. These teams will include officials from all departments to handle any issues quickly and efficiently.
The meeting was attended by several senior officers including Dr CH Malleshwari (Additional Director, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry), DCPs from Cyberabad, Rachakonda, Rajendranagar, Balanagar, and other top police officials.
Through teamwork and careful planning, the city aims to make this Bakrid safe, smooth, and respectful for all.
