Telangana Expands Bharosa Centres to Protect Women and Children
The Telangana police have taken a significant step to ensure the safety of women and prevent domestic and sexual abuse. They have opened two new centres under the Bharosa initiative to provide support to victims of such crimes.
The new Bharosa Centres have been established in two districts: Mahbubnagar and Jogulamba Gadwal. While Mahbubnagar gets a new centre, Jogulamba Gadwal now has a new building for its existing Bharosa Centre. This expansion shows the state’s dedication to helping victims of crimes against women and children.
The opening ceremonies were led by notable officials. In Mahbubnagar, the event was attended by G Chinna Reddy, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board, and DK Aruna, Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar. Other officials like Viziyendra Boyi, the district collector, and D Janaki, Superintendent of Police, were also present. In Jogulamba Gadwal, M B Santosh, the district collector, and T Srinivasa Rao, the Superintendent of Police, participated in the event. The new buildings were funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from MEIL, a company that is helping with the project.
The Bharosa Centres were first launched in May 2016, and since then, they have grown from a single centre to 27 centres across Telangana. These centres offer a range of services, including medical, legal, and rehabilitation assistance to victims. In the first half of this year alone, 14 new centres were inaugurated in districts like Jagityal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Kamareddy, among others.
The dignitaries at the event emphasized the importance of the Bharosa Centres. They highlighted how these centres focus on the needs of the victims and provide comprehensive support. Since their inception, the centres have handled 5,852 cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and 1,447 rape cases. The officials encouraged more CSR foundations to help expand and sustain the Bharosa Centres across Telangana.
These centres play a critical role in ensuring justice and rehabilitation for victims, and the Telangana police remain committed to expanding their reach across the state.
