Hyderabad: The Telangana Irrigation Department has instructed all officers to remain at their posts and closely monitor dams, reservoirs, canals, and tanks as the state expects significant rainfall. These officers can take swift action to prevent any breaches.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy issued urgent commands on Wednesday. He ordered senior officials to stay at their project sites for the next 72 hours. “No one should leave their station or request leave during this critical time,” he emphasized. He insisted that every structure, from small village sites to large dam locations, must be watched carefully. Officers must immediately report any potential threats to their district collector, Chief Engineer, and the Irrigation Secretary.
The Minister demanded constant surveillance of all main and medium projects, canals, embankments, lakes, and particularly tanks, especially those already at full capacity. If any breach occurs, immediate action is necessary to prevent damage. Irrigation officials are to collaborate with the Revenue and Police Departments for patrolling dam sites and other vulnerable areas. They must be vigilant for signs of overflow, seepage, or any structural issues.
To ensure quick emergency response, Uttam Kumar Reddy permitted the use of available financial resources, as stated in Government Order 45, for flood prevention efforts. “This is not the time for bureaucratic delays. Act swiftly and decisively,” he urged.
