Itanagar/Hyderabad: On Monday, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu opened the state’s first commercial coal mine at Namchik Namphuk in Changlang district. This marks a major step in improving the state’s economy and places Arunachal Pradesh prominently on the national coal and energy scene.
The ceremony began with a Bhumi Pujan and included a tree planting activity under the “100-tree plantation initiative,” showing the government’s dedication to sustainable growth. The official start of the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine included transferring the mining lease and starting the machinery for the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block, marking the beginning of mining operations.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy called the project “a symbol of new hope,” highlighting its importance for energy security and regional progress. He stated the mine has about 1.5 crore tonnes of coal and is now operational.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu viewed the project as a boost for economic growth, job creation, and increased state revenue. He believes the mine will empower local communities and attract more investments in Arunachal Pradesh‘s mining and industrial sectors.
The Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine is expected to significantly impact the North East’s development, supporting the national goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The project aims to increase local jobs and industrial activities while enhancing the region’s role in India’s energy independence.
