Bandi Sanjay Kumar, former State BJP chief and Karimnagar MP, became a minister of State in the Modi cabinet on Sunday. He was born on July 11, 1971, in Karimnagar to B Narasayya and B Shakuntala. Sanjay has been involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since he was a child.
Starting out as a city convener, city vice president, and State delegate of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Sanjay later served as a director at Karimnagar Cooperative Bank. He has held various positions within the BJP, including election in-charge at the national office in Delhi and national coordinator for Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
In electoral politics, Sanjay began as a corporator in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation before serving as the BJP city unit president and eventually winning the Karimnagar LS constituency in 2019. He has also been a member of various Parliamentary Committees and boards related to OBC Welfare, Urban Development, Tobacco, Minority Affairs, and Airports Authority of India.
Sanjay gained national fame in 2020 when he became the State BJP chief and led a strong opposition against the ruling party in Telangana. He was later appointed as a national general secretary and re-elected as MP in 2024 with a significant majority. Sanjay is married to Aparna, a bank employee, and they have two children named Sai Bhagirath and Sai Sumukh.
