Hyderabad: The Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute has been chosen as a top institution to offer surgical training and mentorship in the treatment of gynecological cancers. This training is specifically for surgical oncologists working in government hospitals in Tamil Nadu.

This two-week training was part of the Project for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases in Tamil Nadu (TNNCD Oncology Project). The project is a technical cooperation effort supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by the Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Department. The goal of the project is to improve the Tamil Nadu government’s ability to manage cancer prevention and control, both from an administrative and clinical standpoint.

To formalize the partnership for this training, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the International Development Centre of Japan (IDCJ), which is responsible for the technical aspects of the project, and the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI).

Dr. T. Subramanyeshwar Rao, the Medical Director and Head of the Surgical Oncology Department at BIACH&RI, said, “This strategic partnership is expected to be a game-changer, widening treatment options in specialized cancer care offered at government hospitals. Providing advanced training and mentorship, we are proud to be a part of this pertinent effort that will no doubt bring substantial benefits to those battling gynecological cancers.”
