Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has asked the central government to declare the recent heavy rains and floods in the state as a national disaster. He made this request during a high-level meeting where officials reviewed the damage and ongoing relief efforts. The Chief Minister highlighted how badly the floods have affected the state and emphasized the need for immediate help from the central government.
CM Revanth Reddy also directed officials to put together a detailed report on the flood damage. This report will cover the extensive destruction in districts like Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and other affected areas. In addition, the Chief Minister sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to visit the flood-hit regions and provide necessary assistance.
As part of the immediate relief measures, the state government has allocated ₹5 crore to the most affected districts. Furthermore, families who lost loved ones due to the floods will receive financial aid of ₹5 lakh. The state has also decided to increase compensation for livestock lost, including cattle, goats, and sheep.
To make sure the relief efforts are well-coordinated, CM Revanth Reddy has ordered the setting up of call centers in every district collectorate. He also instructed the Command Control Center to stay fully operational to manage the emergency response.
In a significant move to improve disaster response, the Chief Minister announced that eight police battalions in the state would be trained similarly to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Additionally, CM Revanth Reddy instructed the city commissioners of Hyderabad to take proactive steps to prevent traffic problems caused by the floods and to ensure that damaged roads are quickly repaired. He also emphasized the need to address any issues related to electricity supply promptly.
The review meeting was attended by ministers Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Chief Minister’s advisor V. Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, DGP Jitender, and other senior officials from various departments.
The state government remains focused on comprehensive relief and rehabilitation measures to help those affected by the devastating floods.
