Hyderabad: The Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) organized a bird walk event on Sunday at the botanical garden in Hyderabad. A total of 68 bird watchers and nature lovers from different parts of the city participated in the event.

FRO Srinivas and ecotourism project manager, Suman, welcomed the participants and provided an introduction to the botanical garden. The bird watchers were divided into two groups and were guided by four bird experts: Uday Neethipudi, Aparanjani, Harigopala Chari, and Akhil. They were also given a pocket guide on bird species, published by the TSFDC.

The event officially began when Tanuja, the assistant director of ecotourism, waved the flag. During the walk, participants used the pocket guide to identify the birds they encountered. The experts helped visitors by explaining how to properly observe and identify birds, including details about the different types of birds and the sounds they make.

During the bird walk, participants were able to spot 22 different bird species. Some of the birds they saw included the blue jay (pala pitta), red-vented bulbul (pikila pitta), ashy prinia (lottakannu pitta), black drongo (nalla yotrinta), green bee-eater (chinna pasarika), purple sunbird (uda tene pitta), black-winged kite (adavi ramadasu), peafowl (moga nemali), peahens (ada nemali), and brown shrike, among others.

After the bird walk, participants were taken around the Telangana Forest Development Corporation and Botanical Garden in golf carts. They visited the newly created 75 theme parks within the garden. All the participants expressed their satisfaction with the overall experience.

Ranjit Naik, the executive director of ecotourism at TGFDC, announced that bird walks will now be organized once every two months in various parks and forests. He also mentioned that greater care will be taken for bird habitats and weekly nature camps will be held in the future.
