Hyderabad: Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, the BJP State vice president, criticized the BRS and Congress governments for ignoring farmers’ problems.
On Monday, he spoke to the media, accusing former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and current Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of neglecting farmers. He reported that about 30 lakh tonnes of paddy were damaged. Sadly, three farmers, including Gugguloth Kishan from Mahabubnagar, Uppala Venkanna from Suryapet, and Yadagiri from Jangaon, took their lives due to these losses.
Ramachandra Reddy mentioned that since Congress took over, 442 farmers have died. He noted the central government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy is Rs 2,320, but criticized the state for not supporting farmers properly. He highlighted that agricultural officials aren’t helping, and there’s inadequate procurement of crops. He recalled promises made in the Warangal Declaration for bonuses on ten crops, which remain unmet.
He also pointed out the state hasn’t implemented the central crop insurance scheme, leaving farmers unprotected. In contrast, Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister offers farmers solar power, 24-hour electricity, and water, unlike Telangana's Congress government. Poor crop planning and ignoring monsoon warnings have worsened farmers’ losses. The Congress promised a Rs 500 per quintal bonus but hasn’t delivered.
Additionally, he stated that the central government provides funds for buying all crops, covering costs like sacks, transportation, and three months’ interest. Yet, the state hasn’t procured the 30 lakh tonnes of paddy, further complicating farmers’ lives.
