Hyderabad plans to build a cable car linking 7 Tombs and Golconda Fort to boost tourism. Recently, a study checked the technical and environmental aspects of this project.
The idea for this cable car, aimed at promoting visits to these heritage sites, was approved by the Tourism Department in 2021 but faced delays. In August, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) asked for proposals from consultants. Three companies, including a Public Sector NSE-listed company, a Nagpur-based infrastructure company, and a Mumbai-based firm, were shortlisted.
Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin mentioned that the technical committee is reviewing bids, and a company will be chosen by the end of the month. The Telangana Tourism Department approved the project, initially proposed by MP Asaduddin Owaisi and later forwarded by the Chief Minister’s Office to HMDA. It aims to finish by 2026, costing Rs 150 crore.
The cable car will make it easier for tourists, offering a green transport solution that won’t disturb the heritage area. It will cut travel time between these sites to 5-10 minutes, down from the current 15-20 minutes by road during busy times.
The system will have two terminals, one at Golconda Fort and the other at the Qutub Shahi Tombs. This overhead cable car will offer an eco-friendly way to travel, reduce ground-level disruptions, and enhance tourism.
