Hyderabad: Are you a parent or student who still wants to join the first year of the two-year intermediate course under the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) for the academic year 2024-25? If so, there’s still time.
The TGBIE has extended the deadline for admissions until August 20. This new date allows students to enroll in the first year of the intermediate course in a regular mode of study. The board has also provided a list of affiliated junior colleges where students can seek admission.
In addition to the regular mode, the TGBIE offers another option where students can prepare for the exams on their own and appear as private candidates. This is known as the private mode of study.
However, there is also an unofficial, yet widely known, third way to pursue the intermediate course. This method involves enrolling in a “regular part-time mode,” which has been created by certain entrepreneurial individuals. Though not officially recognized by the board, it has gained popularity among students and parents.
An official from one such institution in Madhapur, Hyderabad, explained how this system works. He mentioned that many similar institutions across the city are generating significant revenue by offering this alternative mode of study.
These institutions admit students into their programs for exams like the JEE and TG EAPCET. Although these institutions are not affiliated with the TGBIE, they have partnerships with several TGBIE-affiliated colleges. When a student enrolls in such an institute, they are also admitted to one of these affiliated junior colleges. However, the student is not required to attend regular classes at the college.
This arrangement allows the student to be considered a regular student at the institute while studying the intermediate course part-time at the TGBIE-affiliated college. The institution takes care of the entire process, and parents only need to pay a fee of Rs 1.25 lakh for day scholars or Rs 2.25 lakh for those opting for hostel accommodation.
When asked if this method would disadvantage students by not allowing them to study regularly at a TGBIE-affiliated college, the official clarified that every such institute in Hyderabad has ties with two or three affiliated colleges. This ensures that while the student focuses on exams like the JEE at the institute, they remain officially enrolled as a regular student at a genuine TGBIE-affiliated junior college.
