Hyderabad is set for a major transformation, and the state government is ready to invest heavily to make it happen. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced on Thursday that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is committed to turning the city into a global destination, no matter the cost.
At a review meeting held at the State Secretariat, the Deputy CM evaluated development projects across several constituencies, including Charminar, Malakpet, Karwan, Yakutpura, Chandrayan Gutta, Bahadurpura, and Nampally. These areas fall under the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency.
Bhatti emphasized the need to modernize the Old City while carefully preserving its historic landmarks. He highlighted that a record-breaking ₹10,000 crore was set aside in the latest budget for the city’s development—more than ever before.
A comprehensive plan is in the works to upgrade Hyderabad’s infrastructure. Key focus areas include the revival of the Musi River, metro rail expansion, enhancing tourist sites, and building new educational institutions.
One major initiative is the supply of drinking water. The government is spending ₹7,400 crore to bring in water from the Godavari River. Bhatti pointed out that, unlike the previous administration, the Congress government has taken real steps to solve Hyderabad’s water issues. Through Godavari Phase 2 and Phase 3, the city will receive an additional 20 TMCFT of water—enough to meet the population’s needs for the next five years.
Public transportation is also getting a big boost. Proposals have gone to the Central Government for extending the Metro Rail. One key extension is from MGBS to Chandrayangutta, covering 7.5 kilometers at a cost of ₹2,714 crore. Work has already begun on road widening in the Old City to support this expansion.
Further proposals include metro links from JBS to Medchal, JBS to Shamirpet, and from Shamshabad Airport to Future City. These projects are estimated to cost ₹19,579 crore, and the government is awaiting central approval.
Addressing the recent fire near Gulzar Houz, Bhatti said such incidents must be prevented in the future. He stressed that while accidents can happen, ignoring safety would be unforgivable. He called on citizens and local leaders to support the government’s efforts to improve the city’s infrastructure and safety.
