Gadwal, Telangana: District Collector B.M. Santosh honored the legacy of Mahatma Basaveshwara during the Basaveshwara Jayanti celebrations on Wednesday. The event took place at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) and was held by the BC Welfare Department.
Collector Santosh described Basaveshwara as a bold reformer who challenged caste, class, and gender discrimination. He praised Basaveshwara’s vision of a just and equal society, calling him a guiding light for social transformation.
The program began with a tribute ceremony. The Collector placed a garland on Basaveshwara’s portrait and lit a traditional lamp to mark the occasion.
In his speech, Santosh explained how Basaveshwara worked to break down social barriers. He believed in equality, justice, and truth. His work laid the groundwork for major reforms that reshaped society, the Collector stated.
Santosh also pointed out Basaveshwara’s strong support for women's rights and the dignity of labor. He encouraged the youth to learn from Basaveshwara’s life and follow his ideals to build a better future.
Several officials joined the event, including Additional Collector Lakshmi Narayana, RDO Srinivasa Rao, BC Welfare Officer Ramesh Babu, and Agricultural Officer Narender. Staff members, local leaders, and association representatives also attended, paying their respects to the revered reformer.
The celebration served as a reminder of Basaveshwara’s timeless message—that a fair society is possible through unity, respect, and action.
