Hyderabad – The Suburban Train and Bus Travellers Association has asked the South Central Railway (SCR) to improve local train services across the city. On Wednesday, they submitted a formal request urging railway officials to spread out the suburban train operations more evenly throughout Hyderabad.
According to the association, daily commuters are frustrated. They say the city lacks enough proper suburban train options, making travel difficult for many passengers.
In past meetings, the association had suggested running MMTS trains from Charlapalli to various destinations. However, these suggestions were ignored or dropped without explanation.
Noor, the General Secretary of the association, stated that using six-coach trains would be more efficient than the longer nine or twelve-coach trains on routes like Secunderabad–Falaknuma–Medchal. She explained that fewer rakes are available and that current trains often carry only 10 to 20 passengers. Shorter trains would match the demand better and save resources.
She also recommended technical upgrades near Secunderabad, especially at the track circuit, to let more trains start from Charlapalli. This change would allow services going south and west to begin and end at Charlapalli, easing pressure on the main city stations.
Noor emphasized the need to reduce the load on major stations like Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Hyderabad, and Lingampally. She proposed new train routes from Charlapalli to Vikarabad via Sanathnagar or Secunderabad, and others from Charlapalli to Kurnool via Malkajgiri.
She suggested that Nizamabad-bound trains could start from Kacheguda, and services to Mumbai could operate from Hyderabad or Charlapalli, especially while construction continues at Secunderabad station.
According to the association, this is the perfect time to grow the MMTS network across Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Doing so would bring in more passengers, improve train usage, and boost revenue for the Indian Railways.
