Cybercrimes are becoming more advanced as technology progresses, and it’s crucial for everyone to stay informed. CI Raju from the Cyber Security Bureau in Jogulamba Gadwal stressed that criminals often use hope and greed to trick people online. He urged everyone to be careful and aware in the digital world.
On Wednesday, under the leadership of District SP T. Srinivasa Rao, a Cyber Awareness Day event took place at Kottam College in Gadwal town. During this event, CI Raju spoke to students about new cyber threats and the importance of practicing cyber hygiene.
CI Raju shared key points:
- Avoid falling for scams that play on emotions such as greed or false promises.
- Criminals misuse government programs like PM Kisan Yojana by spreading harmful APK files through WhatsApp. Downloading these files risks phone hacking and financial loss.
- Be cautious of scams like fake investment schemes, threats of digital arrest, and cyberbullying.
Public Safety Tips:
- Never share One-Time Passwords (OTPs), even if someone claims to be from the government or a bank.
- Banks never request OTPs or send clickable links through SMS or email.
- Educate your family about these dangers.
- If in doubt, visit your bank directly instead of responding to calls.
- Avoid clicking on links from unknown sources, especially if they come via SMS, WhatsApp, or Twitter.
Simple errors can lead to financial loss, so act thoughtfully and carefully.
Reporting Cyber Crimes:
CI Raju advised victims of cybercrime to immediately call the national helpline 1930 or report on the NCRP portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in. He promised swift action from local police, increasing the chances of recovering lost funds.
Event Attendees:
The program included Cyber Security Bureau Constable Ramesh Achari, Gadwal Town Cyber Warrior B. Raju, college staff, and many students. This effort aims to equip young people with the knowledge to tackle cyber threats and foster a safer digital environment.
