The fate of several pink party MLAs in Ranga Reddy district is uncertain after the BRS government was ousted in the recent elections. There is speculation that some elected leaders may defect to the Congress party.

In Ranga Reddy, the Congress won three out of the eight assembly constituencies, while the BRS held on to five seats. The most important contests took place in Maheshwaram and Rajendranagar, where P. Sabita Indra Reddy and T Prakash Goud won for the second time.

Surprisingly, Goud, who was elected twice from Rajendranagar on the Telugu Desam Party ticket, defected to BRS and won for the third time in 2018. He was re-elected in the recent elections for the fourth time. Similarly, Sabita won the Maheshwaram seat on a Congress ticket in 2018 but later joined the ruling BRS party and won again.

Goud secured his fourth consecutive win with 121,734 votes, while Sabita retained her seat with 125,578 votes.

Now that the Congress is in power, there are discussions about Goud and Sabita possibly defecting to the party. However, a senior BRS leader stated that no decision has been made yet and any decision will be taken in the interest of the constituency and its people.

There are speculations that Sabita may join the Congress, but a final decision will only be made after consultations with party leaders and her supporters. Similarly, people in Rajendranagar believe that Goud may consider defecting to safeguard his political career.
