Electric vehicles (EVs) are a great way to reduce air pollution in cities, especially on Earth Day. Many state governments in India are encouraging the EV industry by creating policies and regulations. Using electric vehicles instead of traditional ones can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In Telangana, the government introduced the “Telangana Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy” in 2020 to promote the adoption of green vehicles and encourage EV manufacturing units.

There are now over 62,000 registered EVs in Telangana, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and electric buses. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) plans to deploy 500 e-buses soon. However, buying a four-wheeler EV is expensive, and it can be challenging to resell it after its service period. This makes it less attractive to consumers than two or three-wheeler EVs.

The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has sanctioned 520 EV charging stations in India, with 479 of them already installed. In Telangana, 57 charging stations have been sanctioned under Phase 1 of the FAME India scheme, and 16 EV charging stations have been sanctioned on Hyderabad Outer Ring Road. The electrification of mobility can significantly reduce CO2 emissions and play a vital role in reducing pollution and rising heat waves.
