Hyderabad: On the occasion of World Lupus Day, the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy (DVL) at Osmania General Hospital held an energetic rally and an informative seminar to raise public awareness about lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease.
The event started with a rally led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sahay, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent. It began at his office and moved toward the casualty block, drawing attention from staff, patients, and visitors. Students and faculty members shared important facts about lupus, including its signs, risks, and ways to manage it. They spoke in both Telugu and English to ensure everyone could understand.
By 12:30 p.m., the campaign wrapped up with a seminar in the DVL department. Speakers urged attendees to pass on what they learned to at least ten other people. Organizers hoped this would spark a wider awareness movement throughout the community.
The campaign focused on three key goals: healthy skin, a healthy body, and ultimately, a healthier nation.
Several departments came together for the cause. Active participants included doctors and students from DVL—notably Dr. Bhumesh, Dr. Sudeer, Dr. Aruna, and assistant professors. The General Medicine department, led by Dr. Premsagar and his team, also joined in. Nephrology specialists and key figures from the hospital administration, including Dr. Jayakrishna, Dr. Rafi, and Dr. Kavitha, supported the event.
With powerful slogans and educational messages, the rally successfully highlighted the importance of early detection and care for lupus. Organizers hope this effort will lead to better understanding and support for those living with this condition.
