Farmers Protest Against Ethanol Factory in Pedda Dhanwada Enters Seventh Day

The ongoing relay hunger strike against the proposed ethanol factory in Pedda Dhanwada’s suburb has continued for seven days, gaining significant support from farmers and political leaders. Concerns about environmental damage and the impact on farming have fueled the protest, with participants determined to prevent the establishment of the industry.

On Wednesday, Mahbubnagar MLC Challa Venkatram Reddy and Alampur MLA Vijayudu visited the protest site to express their solidarity. Around 1,500 farmers from nearby villages joined the demonstration, firmly opposing the ethanol project. Speaking to the crowd, MLC Challa Venkatram Reddy assured the farmers of his support, promising to fight alongside them until the government cancels the project.

Reddy also reminded the protesters of a similar ethanol factory project in Dilawarpur that was scrapped due to public opposition. He expressed confidence that the same outcome would be achieved in Pedda Dhanwada. “This ethanol industry will not be allowed to proceed under any circumstances,” he declared, adding that he would personally discuss the issue with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to ensure the project’s cancellation.

BRS senior leader Vaddepalli Srinivas and other regional politicians also joined the protest, showcasing broad political backing for the farmers’ cause. Farmers fear that the ethanol factory would lead to severe pollution, deplete water resources, and damage agricultural lands, jeopardizing their livelihoods.

As the protest enters its second week, tensions are escalating. Farmers are calling for immediate action from the government to halt the project. Leaders at the site emphasized that they would not allow the factory to be established, signaling that the movement against the industry is gaining strength.

With growing public resistance and political support, the farmers of Pedda Dhanwada remain steadfast in their struggle. They await a decisive response from the Telangana state government to address their concerns.
