Hyderabad faced two serious fire incidents on Sunday, but thanks to quick action from emergency teams, no lives were lost.
The first fire started early in the morning, around 7:15 am, in a four-storey building with a penthouse in Moghal Colony, Uddamgadda, near Mailardevpally. The fire is believed to have started due to a short-circuit, according to the Fire Services Department.
As the fire spread, thick smoke filled the building. Many of the 50 trapped residents, including 16 children, rushed to the terrace to escape. Firefighters from the Chandrayangutta fire station arrived quickly and launched a fast rescue operation. Using ladders and clearing smoke-filled staircases, they safely evacuated everyone from the building.
Within 90 minutes, the team had brought the situation under control. Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths reported.
Just hours later, another fire broke out near the Indian Oil Corporation facility in Cherlapally, sparking panic in the area. A petrol tanker caught fire, likely due to a technical issue. The driver acted fast, stopping the vehicle before things got worse.
Despite his efforts, the flames spread to another tanker and nearby gas cylinders, causing thick smoke and fear of an explosion. Local residents quickly evacuated their homes.
Firefighters arrived with three fire tenders and a technical team, working efficiently to put out the fire before it could spread further. Their swift response helped prevent a major disaster.
Officials are now checking the extent of property damage and have started an investigation into both incidents to find the exact causes.
These back-to-back fires have raised concerns about fire safety in densely populated urban areas like Hyderabad. Authorities urge residents and building owners to take precautionary measures to avoid such dangerous situations.
