Hyderabad – A passenger traveling on the Godavari Express lost gold ornaments weighing about 11 tolas (around 128 grams) to thieves during an overnight journey. The theft happened in the A1 coach, and the victim reported it to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Secunderabad station after reaching the destination.
The Godavari Express, which runs between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, is one of the busiest trains in the area. According to police, the theft likely occurred while passengers were asleep—an approach often used by gangs that target long-distance trains.
Investigators believe that professional thieves may be behind the crime. They likely took advantage of the crowded coach and the long nighttime travel. Police have filed a case and are now checking CCTV footage from various stations along the train’s route to find clues. They are also speaking with other passengers from the same coach.
In response to similar incidents in the past, railway authorities have increased security on popular express trains. Teams from the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) now conduct random checks and patrols, especially in areas known for frequent thefts.
Officials are asking passengers to stay alert, lock up their valuables, and report anything suspicious to train staff or onboard security. The investigation is ongoing.
