Hyderabad – Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy proudly announced that the newly upgraded Begumpet Railway Station in Hyderabad will be operated entirely by women employees. The renovation was part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at modernizing railway stations across India.
The official virtual launch of the station will take place on Thursday, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event also marks the 300th birth anniversary of Rajmata Ahilyabai, adding cultural significance to the occasion.
Kishan Reddy emphasized that under Modi’s leadership, India’s railway network is expanding rapidly. As of now, 1,300 railway stations across the country are being developed at the same time — a first in Indian history.
In Telangana, 40 stations are under renovation. These stations will be redesigned to reflect the local heritage and culture by 2026. Among them, Secunderabad Railway Station is seeing major improvements, backed by an investment of ₹720 crore. The Hyderabad (Nampally) Station is also being developed with ₹100 crore, as part of a total ₹350 crore project.
Reddy expects both stations to reopen by next year. In total, the Central Government has earmarked ₹5,337 crore for railway development in Telangana, with ongoing projects worth ₹42,219 crore.
A new station in Komuravelli has also been approved, mainly for the benefit of devotees of Komuravelli Mallanna. The foundation stone was laid by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and the station is expected to open during Dussehra.
Kishan Reddy criticized delays in the MMTS Phase-2 project, blaming the previous state administration for a 6 to 7-year setback. Despite this, the second phase is now underway with ₹1,000 crore funding from the Central Government.
Another MMTS line connecting to Yadagirigutta will begin soon, with ₹400 crore already approved.
The government is also rolling out ‘Kavach’ safety technology over 617 kilometers in Telangana. This system aims to reduce train accidents. So far, 121 unmanned crossings have been eliminated. Additionally, 203 underpasses, 43 overpasses, and 45 footbridges have been built to improve safety and convenience.
Without naming him directly, Reddy responded to former state minister KT Rama Rao, accusing him of making baseless criticisms on social media. He urged leaders to focus on facts and support development.
To enhance passenger experience, high-speed Wi-Fi is now available at 174 stations in the state. Also, 88 new stalls have been opened to serve travelers.
Lastly, PM Modi laid the foundation for a railway manufacturing unit in Kazipet, with an investment of ₹580 crore, pushing Telangana further into the spotlight of India’s railway growth.
