The Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, paid tribute to the famous theatre legend Qadir Ali Baig on the 40th anniversary of his passing. Governor Dev Varma attended the premiere of Sunset Sunrise to honor the great dramatist.
Speaking about Qadir Ali Baig’s influence on theatre, the governor said, “The presence of so many people here to pay tribute shows how much Qadir Ali Baig impacted the world of theatre. Even after 40 years, he continues to be loved and admired by the people of this city. He was an extraordinary personality, ahead of his time.”
The governor also praised Baig’s son, Padma Shri Mohammed Ali Baig, for continuing his father’s legacy. He said, “Mohammed Ali Baig is a talented actor and director. The way he has kept his father’s vision alive is truly admirable.”
Governor Dev Varma also paid his respects to Begum Razia Baig, Qadir Ali Baig’s wife, who recently passed away. He recognized her five decades of involvement in theatre, saying, “Her contribution to theatre for over 50 years is remarkable.”
Vani Prasad, Principal Secretary to the Government of Telangana’s Department of Youth Affairs, Tourism, Culture & Sports, also honored Qadir Ali Baig’s legacy. She said, “Telangana tourism will promote events like this, which celebrate rich cultural traditions. His legacy has thrived for over 40 years, and the government promises to continue supporting it.”
During the event, the 19th Annual Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival was officially announced. The festival will take place from November 6th to 11th and will feature six days of performances that celebrate both tradition and modern theatre, all in honor of Qadir Ali Baig’s lasting impact.
