Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Warns Corporate Schools Over High Fees
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued a strong warning to corporate schools in Hyderabad for charging excessively high fees. He said that the government will take serious action against schools that are overcharging students. To address this issue, the CM announced that a special committee will be formed to investigate the matter.
These comments were made by the Chief Minister during a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday, after the results of the DSC-2024 were released. Reddy emphasized that education is not a business but a basic right. He reminded everyone that education is a right according to a law introduced by Sonia Gandhi during the Congress rule. The government, he said, will soon establish a committee to regulate school fees.
Parents have been asking the government to create a fee regulation committee for years. The Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA) has been demanding action for the past two years to stop the yearly fee hikes by private schools. Two years ago, the High Court instructed the government to come up with clear guidelines on fee regulation, but little has been done since then. The CM’s recent comments have given hope to parents, who believe this could finally bring about change.
Reddy also spoke about the steps the government is taking to improve the quality of education in schools. He noted that 34,700 teachers have been transferred as part of these efforts. He criticized the previous government, the BRS, for neglecting education and allowing schools to fall behind in terms of infrastructure.
Due to past government failures, the current administration is facing challenges in improving the education system. However, the CM assured that the government will not shut down schools, even if they have a small number of students. When asked about the National Education Policy (NEP), Reddy said that the State of Telangana has its own education policy.
