Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) party to remove an illegally constructed office in Nalgonda within 15 days. The court also ordered the party to pay Rs. 1 lakh to the Nalgonda District Legal Services Authority (LSA) for building the office without proper municipal permission. This payment must be made within four weeks.
Justice T Vinod Kumar, who presided over the case, criticized the BRS for constructing the office without getting prior approval from the relevant authorities. He noted that after the construction, the party tried to regularize the building by submitting an application, which the judge found unacceptable. He expressed concern that the party, which is in power, created rules and then violated them. Justice Kumar emphasized that the law applies equally to everyone, including the BRS.
The BRS’s legal counsel repeatedly requested the court to exempt the party from paying the Rs. 1 lakh fine. However, the judge rejected these requests, pointing out that the BRS is financially strong and can afford to pay the fine. The case was brought to court by BRS Nalgonda, represented by Ramavath Ravinder Kumar, after the municipal commissioner issued a notice on July 20, 2024, asking the party to remove the unauthorized building within 15 days.
The disputed BRS office is located in survey numbers 1498 and 1506 in Nalgonda village and mandal. The court also noted that the party, while in power, issued government orders (GO 167 on August 16, 2018, and GO 66 on June 21, 2019) to allocate land for the office, which was done in violation of rules.
