The police in Hyderabad have filed a case against a group of people for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. This happened after a documentary called ‘Ram ke Naam’ was screened in Sainikpuri. The documentary is about the issues surrounding the Ram Mandir and Babri Masjid. The screening was organized by a group called Hyderabad Cinephiles.
A complaint was made by a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, alleging that the screening of the documentary was meant to create a communal issue before the Ram Temple inauguration. In the complaint, it was mentioned that derogatory statements were made against Hindus and the VHP organization in the documentary.
The police have invoked Sections 290, 295A, r/w 34 of the IPC. They arrived at the venue of the screening after receiving the complaint and stopped the event.
Hyderabad Cinephiles stated that they were planning to screen and discuss the documentary, but the screening was disrupted by some people. These individuals claimed that it was illegal to screen the movie and that their religious sentiments were hurt. They even tried to damage the screen.
Members of Hyderabad Cinephiles expressed their disappointment and called it a direct attack on their democratic rights. They also stated that the religious fanaticism depicted in the film was witnessed during this incident.
