Severe Cold Wave Grips Hyderabad as Mercury Drops Below 8°C

Hyderabad is experiencing an intense cold wave with no immediate relief in sight, as temperatures across the city plummeted to single digits on Friday morning, December 13. Several areas recorded their lowest temperatures of the season, leaving residents shivering through the early hours.

The University of Hyderabad recorded the lowest temperature in the city at 7.5°C, marking one of the coldest mornings this winter season. The sharp drop in mercury has caught many residents off guard, forcing them to bundle up in warm clothing and stay indoors during early morning hours.

Moula Ali followed closely with a temperature of 8.1°C, while Rajendranagar registered 8.9°C. Both BHEL and Sivarampalle recorded identical readings of 9.3°C, indicating widespread cold conditions across different parts of the city.

The western suburbs were not spared either. Gachibowli, a major IT hub, saw temperatures dip to 9.7°C, while Alwal in the northern part of the city recorded 10.0°C. Qutbullapur registered 10.7°C, and Kapra recorded 11.1°C.

Several central areas of Hyderabad also experienced cold conditions. Shaikpet, Bahadurpura, and Neredmet all recorded temperatures of 11.2°C. The airport area at Begumpet saw the mercury settle at 11.8°C.

Mehdipatnam recorded 12.0°C, while multiple locations including Tirumalgiri, LB Stadium, Charminar, and Himayatnagar all registered identical temperatures of 12.1°C. Even the upscale Jubilee Hills area was not immune to the cold, with temperatures dropping to 12.8°C.

The cold wave has significantly impacted daily life across the city. Early morning commuters, street vendors, and daily wage workers have been particularly affected by the harsh weather conditions. Many residents have been seen wearing heavy jackets, shawls, and sweaters to combat the biting cold.

Health experts have advised residents to take precautions, especially children and elderly people who are more vulnerable to cold-related ailments. Citizens have been urged to stay warm, avoid exposure during early morning hours, and consume hot beverages to maintain body temperature.

The persistent cold conditions have also led to increased demand for warm clothing and heating appliances across the city. Local markets have reported a surge in sales of blankets, quilts, and winter wear as residents prepare for continued cold weather.

Weather patterns suggest that the cold wave conditions are likely to persist in Hyderabad for the coming days, with no immediate respite expected. The combination of clear skies and dry northerly winds has contributed to the sharp drop in minimum temperatures across the region.

The current cold spell represents one of the most intense winter periods the city has experienced in recent years, with temperatures consistently remaining in single digits across multiple locations during early morning hours.
