In Avanch village, located in Thimmajipet Mandal of Nagarkurnool district, stands the largest monolithic Ganesh statue in India. Historical evidence suggests that the statue was carved in the 12th century AD by Thylapudu, the son of King Vikramaditya, from the Western Chalukya dynasty. The statue is carved from a single stone and stands in an agricultural field, covering an area of 30 feet.
Even though the Chalukya rulers eventually left the region, the Ganesh statue has remained in Avanch village. Every year, during the Vinayaka Chavithi festival, a large number of devotees visit the village to offer their prayers. This sacred statue is worshiped exclusively during the Vinayaka Chavithi festival.
For many years, people have been asking for a temple to be built around the statue. Although Lord Ganesh is known as the remover of obstacles, the efforts to build the temple have faced many delays. Despite the challenges, devotees from different regions and neighboring districts gather in Avanch every year to see and worship this enormous monolithic Ganesh idol.
