Mahabubnagar: Jadcherla MLA Janampally Anirudh Reddy has introduced a free groundnut seed program worth Rs 3.94 crore for farmers in his area. This initiative aims to relieve farmers who recently faced a urea shortage at the start of the sowing season.
Gopinath, the Agriculture Officer for Jadcherla Mandal, stated that the 100% subsidized scheme will start next week, on either September 23 or 24.
In a media briefing on Saturday, the Congress leader mentioned that 5,475 farmers will receive 60 kg of groundnut seeds per acre without any cost, through the National Oilseeds Development Programme. “Every eligible farmer in selected areas will get quality seeds and expert advice for better harvests,” he promised. Farmers in Jadcherla and the state have struggled with the urea shortage, leading to protests and criticism of government policies. Analysts see Reddy’s seed distribution as a timely help for farmers and a strategic move to gain community support before upcoming elections. The program covers six mandals—Jadcherla, Midgil, Nawabpet, Urkonda, Balanagar, and Rajapur—spanning 2,190 hectares. Villages like Alur, Kondedu, Pedda Adirala, Malleboyin Palli, Nasrullabad, Polepalli, Gangapur, and Kodugal are selected for the free seed distribution. Farmers will also get soil testing, market connections, and training through the Value Chain Clusters (VCC) scheme to improve productivity and profits.
Reddy also launched a program to modernize farming, offering 1,029 farm machines like sprayers, rotovators, power tillers, and hay balers at a 40% subsidy, with discounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2 lakh.
“Mechanization will cut labor costs and ensure timely farming tasks,” he emphasized, showing the government’s dedication to long-term farming resilience.
Currently, this announcement gives farmers hope. “This scheme provides relief after the fertilizer crisis,” said a farmer from Midgil mandal. “If we receive the seeds and machines on time, it will help us restart.”
The scheme is set to be launched by Anirudh Reddy in Nawabpet mandal. Initially, 5,475 farmers were selected based on previous crop data and soil suitability in Midjil, Jadcherla, Nawbpet, and Urkonda mandals. The rollout begins this season, with Mandal Agriculture Officers and Agricultural Extension Officers managing distribution and support.
