Chandigarh: Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, visited the Gevra coal mine on Thursday. This mine is the second-largest coal mine in the world. During his visit, officials gave him a presentation about the various activities at the site. He also inspected the ongoing mining operations that use advanced technology called ‘Blast Free Surface Miner Technology’ and heavy machinery.
The minister checked the first-mile connectivity system and looked at the eco-friendly public transport options available in the area. He also spoke to machine operators to learn more about how the equipment was performing.
Kishan Reddy praised the hard work of the mine’s employees, including female staff members. He thanked them for their efforts in helping the country meet its energy needs. To show his appreciation, he had lunch with the workers and took selfies with them.
He also visited an area where trees were planted using the Miyawaki method, a special technique for growing forests quickly. In addition, he opened the Kalyan Mandapam, a new building made for the workers and employees.
The minister highlighted the importance of the electricity sector in securing the country’s energy future. He pointed out that more than 70 percent of India’s energy comes from coal. He said that proper planning and sustainable mining practices are important to maintain a balance between progress and the environment.
Kishan Reddy said the Gevra mine is a matter of national pride and plays a key role in meeting India’s growing energy demands. He noted that the dedication of coal miners is crucial for ensuring a steady supply of coal to support the country’s electricity needs.
Other officials who joined the visit included Coal India Limited Chairman P. M. Prasad, Joint Secretary of the Automobile Department B. P. Pati, SECL CMD Harish Duhan, and other senior members.
