Hyderabad: Residents of Ward 5 in Secunderabad Cantonment are once again facing a serious water shortage. People living in the area say that drinking water is not being supplied regularly. In some places, water is only coming once every five days, and even then, the pressure is very low. Locals are asking officials to increase the number of water tankers to help meet the demand.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) says they are trying to solve the issue. They have announced plans to add four more 5,000-litre tankers to the six tankers already in use. This is expected to help during the summer, when demand for water increases. However, many residents are still struggling, especially in parts of Ward 5. Officials believe the problem might be due to falling groundwater levels, even though the city received good rainfall last monsoon.
“For the past two months, we have been getting water at odd hours and with very low pressure,” said Suresh, a local resident. “Since there is no quick solution from the board, we are forced to pay for private water tankers. We’ve complained many times, but nothing has changed. Last month, we got water once every four days, and now it’s every five days. With the weather getting hotter, more water is needed.”
T Satish Gupta, a social activist, added, “We don’t understand why water isn’t coming on time. It’s only once every five days, and the pressure is too low. When we speak to officials, they say water is being supplied, but we’re not getting it when we need it.”
Residents are hoping the SCB will take stronger action soon to solve the problem before the summer heat worsens the crisis.
