Hyderabad: People trying to get a driver’s learning license are facing delays. The Road Transport Authorities are taking 15-20 days to process applications.
Earlier, it took only a day or two to book a slot for the learner’s license. Now, applicants are waiting over two weeks. The transport department blames a shortage of staff for these delays.
K Akhil applied for a learner’s license at the Moosarambagh RTO. He said, “I applied online, but my slot came much later. It used to take just a few days, but now I have to wait 23 days.” Akhil applied on June 4 and got a slot for June 24.
M Dayanand, the general secretary of the Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union, criticized the delays. He stated these delays affect applicants, especially students who just turned 18. What used to take a day or two now takes 15–20 days just to book a slot, making the process longer.
Dayanand highlighted the staff shortage at Greater Hyderabad’s RTA offices. He questioned why applicants should suffer due to this issue. He urged the government to hire more staff to make the process smoother.
Sources say over 300 transactions occur daily at RTA offices in Greater Hyderabad. Although the application is online, many avoid it due to booking delays. They rely on agents and brokers, which costs more. Dayanand mentioned, “People use agents to speed things up, but they still face delays and extra costs.”
