Hanamkonda: Just days before the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary in Warangal on April 27, the party faced a major setback in Palakurthi constituency. Several party workers have left BRS and joined the ruling Congress party.
These members had worked for many years under former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao. On Thursday, around 500 BRS activists and leaders switched sides and joined Congress. This move was led by Palakurthi MLA Yasaswini Reddy and constituency in-charge Hanumandla Jhansi Rajender Reddy.
Dr. Ponugoti Someshwara Rao, chairman of the Torrur Mandal Development Committee and an important local leader, led the group. At Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, State Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomed the new members by presenting them with Congress party scarves.
Some of the key leaders who joined Congress include former Torrur sarpanch Rajesh Naik, former MPP of Rayaparthi Kanjarla Ellayya, and former MPTC members Somla Naik, Rajender, Bhojya, Banoth Srinu, Jatoth Naresh, Padma Yakender, Ravi Naik, Krishnamurthy, and Narasimha Naik. Minority leader Md. Anwar, youth leaders Veeramaneni Raju, Suresh Naik, Guguloth Ashok, Nehru Naik, and women leaders Kethavath Anuja, Daravath Anita, and Vimala also joined the Congress.
MLA Yasaswini Reddy said many people are drawn to Congress because of its development work. She believes both the new and existing party members will work together to succeed in the upcoming local body elections.
Hanumandla Jhansi Rajender Reddy commented that Errabelli is still holding onto false hopes. She added that the trend of leaders shifting to Congress began a few months ago and is continuing to grow. She expects many more to join Congress in the near future.
