Hyderabad: The Tolichowki–Nanal Nagar stretch has turned into a nightmare for commuters, with massive traffic jams persisting throughout the day. Residents say the situation has been worsening for the past 2–3 years, but no concrete solution has been implemented so far.
For the last one week, traffic flow on the stretch has been almost at a standstill — not just during peak hours, but continuously from 8 AM till 11 PM. Thousands of vehicles moving between Hitech City, Old City, and Attapur are getting stuck due to the narrow roads and increased vehicle count.
Though traffic police are deployed, commuters say their efforts are proving ineffective as the problem lies in the road infrastructure itself.
Pending Projects, Dug-Up Roads Add to Woes
Residents recall that the HI-CITI project proposed underpasses and bridges to ease congestion in the area, but the plans have remained only on paper with no tenders or ground-level work. Additionally, several stretches that were dug up almost two years ago near TGSPCL substation and Karol Bagh Colony are still not relaid, making the traffic situation worse.
Bus Stop Placement Causing Gridlock

Another major bottleneck is at the Hand Pylon signal, where commuters wait for over 15 minutes. Even after the signal turns green, an RTC bus halts beside Morine Bakery at a designated stop, immediately blocking the flow of vehicles again. Locals demand that this bus stop be shifted elsewhere to avoid the repeated gridlock.
Structural Change Needed
The stretch from Nanal Nagar to Retibowli is extremely narrow but carries huge traffic volumes, especially employees traveling from Hitech City towards Old City and Attapur. Experts and locals alike stress that no amount of manual regulation by traffic police can solve this crisis. The only real solution lies in road widening and infrastructure upgrades.
Until then, commuters say they have no option but to continue facing endless jams on one of Hyderabad’s busiest corridors.
