Hyderabad: Due to an increase in accidents caused by underage drivers, the Hyderabad traffic police are starting a special enforcement campaign from April 5. The goal is to stop minors from driving and to prevent road accidents.
According to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is illegal for anyone under the legal age to drive. If a minor is caught driving, not only will the minor face consequences, but the vehicle owner—usually a parent or guardian—will also be held responsible and face legal action.
The police stated that, under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, there are serious penalties for such offenses. These include fines, possible jail time, and cancellation of the vehicle’s registration for 12 months. Additionally, the minor will not be allowed to apply for a learner’s or driving license until they turn 25.
D Joel Davis, the Joint Commissioner of Traffic, has urged parents and guardians to make sure their children do not drive until they reach the legal age. He emphasized that this is important for everyone’s safety.
The traffic police will take strict legal action against anyone who breaks these rules. They ask all citizens to follow traffic laws and work together to keep roads safe and prevent accidents.
