Hyderabad, Nov 2 — The Musi Riverfront Development Project, the Telangana government has decided to resume 734.07 acres of government and institutional land spread across several key localities near Himayatsagar, Kismathpur, Premavathipet, Budvel, and Kothwalguda in Rangareddy district. The land will be officially transferred to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) to kickstart large-scale rejuvenation and urban redevelopment works along the Musi River corridor.

According to government sources, the land resumption aims to pave the way for the revival, beautification, and flood protection of the Musi stretch — a project that has been on hold for years. Once completed, it is expected to transform the Musi basin into a sustainable and scenic urban ecosystem, with riverfront promenades, green corridors, and housing zones planned under MRDCL’s supervision.

However, this decision has also raised concerns among residents and landholders in surrounding areas. Many are anxious to know if their properties fall within the proposed Musi River buffer zone, which could face restrictions or redevelopment in the coming years.

Officials stated that wherever possible, tree removal will be minimized, and around 150 out of 950 affected trees will be relocated to safer areas. The remaining trees are planned to be preserved through alternate design adjustments.

The 46 km Musi corridor will be developed into a four-lane expressway at an estimated cost of ₹1,000 crore, providing seamless connectivity between ORR (Outer Ring Road), Chevella, and Vikarabad.

Urban experts say the project could significantly boost real estate growth and farm tourism along the Musi belt, especially near Kismathpur and Budvel, where several private ventures have already begun buying land in anticipation of future development.
