Nalgonda: A new laparoscopic unit has opened at the Nalgonda Government General Hospital (GGH), thanks to a Rs 1.5 crore donation from the Komatireddy Prateek Reddy Foundation. Dr. Nageshwar Reddy, a respected Padma Vibhushan awardee and AIG Hospitals Chairman, had the honor of inaugurating the facility.
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed his happiness during the opening on Monday. Addressing students at Nalgonda Medical College, he shared how Dr. Reddy’s readiness to inaugurate the unit was a cherished moment for him, surpassing even his feelings upon becoming a minister.
The Minister emphasized efforts to enhance healthcare for the district’s poor. He mentioned the swift completion of the Medical College within a year of their administration, and the ongoing construction of a nursing college, costing Rs 40 crore.
He praised Dr. Reddy as a leading gastroenterologist who, four decades ago, chose to leave a lucrative career abroad to start AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad. Through his hospital, Dr. Reddy has trained many doctors and provided outstanding patient care.
Minister Komatireddy sees Dr. Reddy as an inspiration and urged medical students to pursue their ambitions with resolve. He also asked Dr. Reddy to offer internships to students from Nalgonda Medical College at AIG Hospitals.
During his speech, Dr. Reddy advised students to clarify their goals post-MBBS and work hard to achieve them. He commended the Minister for setting up a quality laparoscopic unit, which will save patients from traveling to Hyderabad for surgeries.
The event saw the presence of gastroenterologists Dr. GV Rao and Dr. SV Reddy, Additional Collector Srinivas, and others.
