Osmania University’s English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) has introduced a new initiative to help tribal undergraduate students from Telangana improve their English language and communication skills. This programme aims to bridge the communication gap and enhance the employability of tribal students, showcasing the university’s commitment to supporting underprivileged communities. A total of 66 tribal students, including one male and one female from each of Telangana’s 33 districts, have been selected from various government degree colleges to participate in this initiative.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, the chief guest at the event, described the programme as a “transformative journey” for the students. He highlighted the importance of communication skills in achieving personal and professional success, stating that effective communication fosters confidence, strengthens relationships, and promotes teamwork. “These skills will help students not only in academics and employment but also in expressing their ideas clearly,” he said.

The governor also emphasized the evolving role of English, noting that it has shifted from being a language of oppression to one of global expression. “We cannot build a developed India (Viksit Bharat) without including marginalized communities and empowering them,” he added.

Professor B Vijaya, Head of the Department of English and Director of ELTC, elaborated on the programme’s objectives. “The primary aim is to enhance students’ listening, speaking, reading, writing, and overall communication skills,” she explained. The course will feature four daily sessions conducted by experts from institutions such as Hyderabad Central University, EFLU, regional institutes, State universities, and NIT. Additionally, all sessions will be video-recorded to benefit other students from government degree colleges across Telangana.

The event was also attended by Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Professor Kumar Molugaram, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University; and Professor C Kaseem, Principal of the University College of Arts. This initiative marks a significant step in empowering tribal youth and promoting educational inclusivity in Telangana.
