Hyderabad: Osmania University has introduced a new electric three-wheeler to help transport food waste from its hostels to a biogas plant on campus.
The vehicle was officially handed over to the Director of the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor M. Kumar.
University officials shared that the biogas plant, located near the Ladies Hostel, can process up to two tons of food waste each day. It was set up last year with the support of KPMG under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The project was carried out by the NGO SAAHAS and Ahuja Engineering Services.
The plant is already working at full capacity. The new electric vehicle will make it easier and more eco-friendly to move kitchen waste from different hostels to the plant.
